Hi, I’m Venushka. I live in Colombo, Sri Lanka and was living here with my family as long as I can remember.
In December 2004, I passed out as a Bachelor of Science in Computing and Information Systems from London Metropolitan University, United Kingdom with First Class Honours. I actually didn’t go there to study, but I followed it through a local institution.
And have to mention a word about Java, the programming language that I like the most. Some say that it’s a very difficult language, but as I see it, if you get the basics right, you can go as deep as you want. I’m glad that I became a Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform (1.4) in last April 2005.
what i do
I’m currently working at Valista, and was at Virtusa, OpenWorld, Outscope and Vesess.
what i like
I like many things, among them music (especially local) comes at the top. From the tangible stuff I like, some of them you can find in my Amazon Wish-list. If you like my work and you’d like to make me happy, buy me something from it
standards
Even though I’m not much in to designing, which should be obvious after seeing my site, I like to stick to standards.
This site is built using XHTML 1.0 and CSS to conform to accessibility standards US 508 and W3C WAI. As W3C recommends, this site is served as application/xhtml+xml (because of XHTML 1.1) for browsers that can handle it, and for others the good old text/html is used.
I recommend that you use a standard compliant browser (ideally FireFox) to get the best out of this site.
php ?!!?
PHP is a simple language, BUT doesn’t mean that it lacks the ability to scale. I learnt the basics of it overnight, and the next day I wrote a voting application (a pre-election kind-of thing) and it was really successful. So if you are thinking it’s difficult to do PHP, stop thinking and start learning, because I know it for a fact that it’s very easy to learn.
this site
The word “adahas” is a Sinhala word meaning “ideas”. So I decided to name my personal blog after it, because all my “adahas” will be on this site.
This site is built on WordPress 1.5.1.1 which is the latest at the time of writing (yes, it way too old now, but i don’t have time to upgrade). I built some plug-ins for WordPress to extend its functionality, and some are used in this site as-well. Thanks to David B. Nagle for Search Pages plugin, and to Mike Industries for sIFR.
a word of thanks
Firstly, I’d like to thank Prabhath, a batch mate at school and a fellow team member at Vesess, for all the help you have given me (and hopefully will give in the future
) and for always being an inspiration to me. Thank you muchang, without you, none of this would have been possible.
A big ‘thank you’ to all my friends who studied with me and being there for me always. You guys (and gals of course) are the greatest.
Last, but not least my mother, my little bro and my fiancé, thank you so much for everything.
